About NRECA International Foundation and This Newsletter
This is the first issue of International TieLine, the NRECA International Foundation e-newsletter. Designed to keep you informed about the NRECA International Foundation, it will feature articles about the organization's people, projects and activities.
The name of this newsletter, International TieLine, represents the ties between the United States and developing-world cooperatives. It's also a nod to the "tie" to you - our supporting community - this newsletter was developed to support. (And many of you also know that "tie line" is an industry term for a power line built expressly to tie two separate electric systems together.)
About NRECA International Foundation
NRECA International Foundation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, is a charitable organization dedicated to the mission of bringing electricity to the world, one village at a time.
The organization is supported solely through voluntary donations, with more than 300 cooperatives and many private organizations contributing time, money and materials to dozens of projects in several countries. This newsletter will help inform you about how you can contribute-through getting the word out about NRECA International Foundation activities, monetary donations, or even volunteering overseas.
The NRECA International Foundation also partners with NRECA International, Ltd. and member cooperatives to implement rural electrification projects worldwide. It provides support through its core of expert volunteers that assist with the construction and maintenance of electric distribution systems, and in training of the local utility staff (board of directors, linemen safety, co-op management, etc.).
