| PSE Traces Its Roots to Helping Co-ops |
From the very beginning, the commitment of Power System Engineering (PSE) to the electric cooperative industry has been clear. Their first clients, when they opened their doors in 1974, were four co-ops in southeastern Minnesota.
Over the ensuing 36 years, that commitment hasn't diminished. PSE has worked with some 300 distribution co-ops and 20 cooperative G&Ts, representing some 80 percent of the company's total business.
"We enjoy working with cooperatives for a lot of reasons," said Candice Roth, PSE's Client Communications Coordinator. "They are very progressive within the industry. They tend to be very involved and responsive with their projects. And there's always a strong camaraderie among cooperative employees, which makes doing business with them easier and more enjoyable."
A Gold-level NRECA Associate Member since 2007, PSE is an employee-owned consulting firm based in Madison, Wisconsin. They offer engineering, economic and planning services ranging from rate-planning to automation to line design to communications.
Roth said their association with NRECA has been a boost for PSE, which has been rapidly expanding and now maintains offices in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio, Indiana and South Dakota.
"We are always trying to find ways to better support and provide services to the cooperatives that will help them advance their services to the end user," she said. "NRECA keeps us informed and educated on what is happening with cooperatives and helps us maintain that critical relationship."
Roth added that PSE gained additional co-op support by helping NRECA's Cooperative Research Network in a successful bid for a large federal Stimulus Grant that benefits several cooperatives.
PSE is a regular advertiser in RE Magazine, frequently presents at NRECA training courses and is an exhibitor at TechAdvantage.
